Since 1570, Strasbourg has been the beating heart of Christmas in Alsace.
From 27 November to 24 December 2026, the Capital of Christmas lights up and its wooden chalets take over the Grande Île. At the Hôtel du Dragon, a 17th-century house facing La Petite France, you are an 8-minute walk from the cathedral and a few steps from the markets of the Saint-Thomas quarter.

The “market of the Infant Jesus” was born in 1570 at the foot of the cathedral.
More than four centuries later it has become one of the most visited Christmas events in Europe: over 3 million visitors walked the streets of Strasbourg during the 2025 edition. Wooden chalets, decorated fir trees, illuminated half-timbered façades and the scent of cinnamon make up a setting found nowhere else.
Place Broglie, the historic Christkindelsmärik
15 minutes on foot
The founding market, and the largest, bringing together craftspeople, Christmas decorations and Alsatian specialities.
Place Kléber, at the foot of the Great Tree
9 minutes on foot
The Great Tree, the emblem of Christmas in Strasbourg, watches over the Village du Partage, where 110 charities take turns in the solidarity chalets.
Around the cathedral
8 minutes on foot
On Place de la Cathédrale and Place du Château the chalets huddle beneath the pink sandstone spire of Notre-Dame: the most photographed image of Christmas in Strasbourg.
La Petite France, Place Benjamin Zix and Place Saint-Thomas
4 to 7 minutes on foot
The market next door to the hotel, and the closest of them all. Tanners' houses, canals and covered bridges give it a more intimate feel, ideal at the end of the day when the lights are reflected on the Ill.
Le Quai des Délices
7 minutes on foot
On Terrasse Rohan and Place du Marché-aux-Poissons, the food lovers' market at the water's edge.
Les Irréductibles Petits Producteurs d'Alsace
9 minutes on foot
On Square Louise Weiss, in La Petite France: cheeses, charcuterie, wines and farm produce sold directly by the people who make them.
The Carré d'Or market
9 minutes on foot
On Place du Temple Neuf, in the heart of the shopping district whose streets vie with one another in decoration.
The OFF market
9 minutes on foot
On Place Grimmeissen, a fair-trade and inclusive market offering another way of experiencing Christmas.
Behind its 17th-century façade, the Hôtel du Dragon has kept its original proportions and dressed them in a contemporary interior.
All 44 rooms and suites are air-conditioned. The Classic rooms look out over the river and the church of Saint-Thomas, while the Superior rooms reveal their exposed beams. For a family or a group of friends, the 35 to 40 m² Appart'hôtel has a kitchenette.
In the morning, the breakfast created by Michelin-starred chef Thierry Schwartz is served indoors or in the patio: just what you need before a day among the chalets.

During the market's opening hours, motor vehicles are not allowed on the Grande Île.
The hotel's private car park, reached from the A4 (exit 3, Porte Blanche), lets you leave your car on arrival and do everything on foot. Remember to book it with your room: spaces are limited.

Strasbourg is not the only city to light up: the group also welcomes you in three other market towns.
In Colmar, one of the finest Christmas markets in Europe spreads its villages around the old town. In Obernai, five squares in the historic centre come alive with little houses, a carousel and an exhibition of nativity scenes. In Molsheim, at the start of the Wine Route, the market keeps the scale and the warmth of a small Alsatian town.
Colmar is 50 minutes from Strasbourg, Obernai 30 minutes and Molsheim 20 minutes: enough to build a multi-market stay from the Hôtel du Dragon.
To plan your visit, find the official programme, the market map and the events at the Strasbourg Tourist Office.
The Strasbourg Christmas market opens on Friday 27 November 2026 and closes on 24 December 2026. The chalets welcome visitors every day from 11.30 a.m. to 9 p.m., opening at 2 p.m. on the first day and closing at 6 p.m. on 24 December.
Eight markets are spread across the historic centre: place Broglie, place Kléber, around the cathedral, in La Petite France, at the Quai des Délices, square Louise Weiss, place du Temple Neuf and place Grimmeissen.
The Petite France market, on places Benjamin Zix and Saint-Thomas, and the Irréductibles Petits Producteurs market on square Louise Weiss are the closest. The cathedral is an eight-minute walk away.
The Grande Île is closed to motor vehicles during market opening hours. The Hôtel du Dragon has a private car park, payable and by reservation, with charging points for electric vehicles.
